about

When I was in high school, there was a cover of Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice" by a band called The Gourds and it was the best party song- so many good memories with that song. I wanted to make a track that was fun and had a similar uplifting way about it- something that would stick with you. I tend to make tracks that are more moody so making "Soda and Lime" was a fun journey into some fresh musical territory.

I found the vocal sample from a trap sound pack. It sounded more like a chant but I knew there was something really interesting there.

I named it "Soda and Lime" as a wink to "Gin and Juice". I got older and quit drinking booze, so now my go-to drink is club soda and lime.

With the break section of the song, I think the music there was the more nostalgic, more emotional bits coming out- a result of reflecting on my youth.

I wanted to frame the song within an old record player or old juke box motif by incorporating some of those elements within the production and in the mix- like the distorted guitars towards the end of the break that eventually sound like they lose power or the record stopping at the end.

I hoped to give the sense that maybe you came across the song randomly at an old diner or cafe, not sure what to make of this more modern sounding song coming out of an old, run down speaker system.
